Meet the Founder of StaffView: An Experienced Teacher and Relief Educator from Adelaide

Alicia Blake - Founder and Creator

I earned my Early Childhood teaching degree in 2009 and began my career as a Temporary Relief Teacher (TRT). It wasn’t long before I transitioned into primary teaching contracts as I built strong connections with schools. By 2015, I was drawn to the serenity of rural settings, where I embraced the role of a preschool teacher and later stepped into a leadership position.

Throughout my career, one thing remained a constant source of frustration and stress—the unpredictability of the hiring process. By 2018, I had enough and decided to stop applying for positions. Honestly, I just needed a break from all the application writing. I figured I’d leave it up to the universe and find some peace in that decision—and surprisingly, I felt pretty happy about it! Sometimes, you just have to let go and trust things will unfold on their own, right?

In 2020, I moved back to suburbia and worked a 0.6 contract. I loved the work-life balance and rediscovered my strength and passion for teaching. As my contract neared its end, I returned to TRT work—and you know what? I realized that moving from place to place and experiencing new classrooms every day was absolutely perfect for me. It’s funny how things change; at the beginning of my career, all I wanted was my own class. But now, this nomadic teaching adventure feels just right! It’s amazing how our perspectives can shift over time, isn’t it?

Why a New System for Advertising Education Jobs to Casual Teachers and Educators in Adelaide?

The landscape of temporary relief teaching (TRT) has shifted from in-person networking to online booking platforms. While this streamlines the process, it limits opportunities for teachers to build relationships and showcase their skills. Many casual teachers struggle to find work, as schools rely on personal lists or impersonal systems.

We created a new system to bridge this gap—connecting educators with schools in a fairer, more transparent way to improve casual teaching opportunities in Adelaide.

The Challenges of Casual Teaching Work

Finding work as a CRT is unpredictable and frustrating:

  • Constant availability updates – A tiring weekly task.

  • Uncertain school connections – Jobs relied on who I knew, not my skills.

  • Unanswered job requests – Some ignored for months.

  • Disruptive notifications – Hard to switch off.

  • Missed opportunities – Too busy to respond fast enough.

  • Unstable income – Early mornings with no guaranteed work.

Teachers deserve a fair, consistent, and controlled system.
